In the Human Design System, every person belongs to one of five Types: Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Manifestor, or Reflector. Your Type is not a personality label - it is a mechanical description of how your energy operates and how your aura interacts with the world around you.
Type is determined by which energy centers are defined (colored in) on your Bodygraph - particularly the Sacral center and its connections. Whether you have consistent life-force energy (Sacral), how that energy reaches expression (Throat connections), and what happens when you have no definition at all - these mechanics create five fundamentally different ways of being human.
Each Type comes with a Strategy - the specific way you are designed to engage with the world. Following your Strategy reduces resistance and aligns you with the life that is correct for you. Ignoring it produces your not-self theme: the emotional signal that tells you something is off. And when you are living correctly, you experience your signature: the feeling that confirms you are on the right track.
Type is the entry point. Before you explore your Profile, your Centers, your Gates, your Variable - begin here. Strategy and Authority are the experiment. Everything else becomes meaningful only after you have begun to live the mechanics of your Type.
Generators are the life force of the planet - the builders, the workers, the ones with sustainable energy to create and bring things to life. With a defined Sacral center, they have consistent access to powerful life-force energy that regenerates through sleep. Their open and enveloping aura draws life to them, and their design is to respond to what shows up rather than initiate from the mind.
Manifesting Generators are part of the Generator family, meaning they have defined Sacral life-force energy. What distinguishes them is that a motor is connected to the Throat, which can make them seem faster, more iterative, and more "manifest-y" in how they execute once they're moving. They often learn by doing, may pivot quickly, and can handle multiple interests. They are best when they follow what they genuinely have energy for.
Projectors are here to guide, assess, and direct energy. They are naturally tuned in to people and systems and can recognize what works, what does not, and how to use energy more efficiently. With no defined Sacral center, they are not built for consistent workforce output. Their focused, absorbing aura can feel deeply penetrating to others. Projectors do best when they are recognized and invited into the right roles, relationships, and environments.
Manifestors are the initiators - the only Type designed to act independently without waiting for external input. With a motor center connected directly to the Throat (but no defined Sacral), they have powerful bursts of creative and initiating energy. Their closed and repelling aura protects them from outside influence, allowing them to move through the world independently. Historically, they were the rulers and monarchs.
Reflectors are the rarest Type - and the most fundamentally different. With no defined centers at all, every center in their chart is open. They take in, amplify, and reflect the energy of everyone and everything around them. They are also amplifying the transit field. Their sampling aura makes them extraordinarily sensitive to their environment, and they serve as mirrors for the health of their communities. Their identity is fluid, not fixed.
